Web design terms, phrases and Jargon

This is a dictionary of all the technical terms used in this blog. All entries are sorted in alphabetical sequence.  You can also use the find feature of your browser to locate a specific term instead of scrolling.

Agile

A Set of software development methodologies based on iterative development.  Requirements and solutions evolve through collaboration between self-organizing cross-functional teams

A n incoming hyperlink from one web page to another website. The more “follow type” backlinks you have pointing back to your site, the more popular it will be.

Follow type backlinks tell the crawling engine to follow the link to its destination and crawl that page as well. This action increases the ranking of the target page.

No follow type backlinks instruct the crawling engine NOT to crawl the target page. This way your SEO ranking is not affected. These type of  links are good for humans to get to your page but no help for the ranking. These are the type of links you get on the social sites and some of the citation sites.

Brand Equity

The commercial value that derives from consumer perception of the brand name of a particular product or service, rather than from the product or service itself.

Branding

The promotion of a particular product or company by means of advertising and distinctive design.

Campaign

Work in an organized and active way toward a particular goal, typically a political or social one.

Citation

Is any online mention of the name, address, and phone number for a local business. Citations can occur on local business directories, on websites and apps, and on social platforms. Citations help Internet users to discover local businesses and can also impact local search engine rankings.

Client

A client is a piece of computer hardware or software that accesses a service made available by a server. The server is often (but not always) on another computer system, in which case the client accesses the service by way of a network.

Domain Authority

Is a score measured by MOZ out of 100 which is a average score given for the complete website. It predicts how good any Website will rank in SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages). The better the DA and PA better our SEO ranking.

E-Commerce

Commercial transactions conducted electronically on the Internet.

Methodology

A system of methods used in a particular area of study or activity.

Page Authority

Is a score measured by MOZ out of 100 which is given to particular page. Each page on our site has different score. The better the DA and PA better our SEO ranking.

Payment Gateway

A payment gateway is an ecommerce service that processes credit card payments for online and traditional brick and mortar stores.

SEO Ranking

Search engine optimization is a methodology of strategies, techniques and tactics used to increase the amount of visitors to a website by obtaining a high-ranking placement in the search results page of a search engine (SERP) — including Google, Bing, Yahoo and other search engines.

Server

A computer or computer program which manages access to a centralized resource or service in a network.

Tagline

A catchphrase or slogan, especially as used in advertising, or the punchline of a joke.
